In 2017, Mike Nowak celebrated his 20th year talking about gardening, the environment and green living on Chicago radio. The Mike Nowak Show with Peggy Malecki airs on 1590AM WCGO on Sunday mornings from 9-11am Central Time. Previously, Mike hosted programs on WGN Radio, WCPT 820AM and Que4 Radio. For two seasons, he was co-host of the local gardening and food TV program Dig In Chicago. His award-winning column has appeared on the inside back page of Chicagoland Gardening Magazine since 2003. In 2014, he released his book, Attack of the Killer Asparagus and Other Lessons Not Learned in the Garden. Mike co-founded the Midwest Ecological Landscape Alliance (MELA), is an Illinois Extension Master Gardener and Openlands TreeKeeper, and is past president of the Chicago Recycling Coalition and former board member of the Illinois Recycling Association. Since 2010, Peggy Malecki has been publishing Natural Awakenings Chicago magazine, an independent monthly publication focused on living a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. She’s co-hosted The Mike Nowak Show since 2016. Living green is important to Peggy, who strives to incorporate sustainable, healthful habits into her everyday life and teach others to do the same. While her professional background includes publishing, marketing, technical documentation and training development/delivery, and product management, she’s also a home gardener (her garden earned a Lake County Conservation@Home certification in 2017), an avid Lake Michigan sailor, and served for eight years as a Lakefront Commissioner with the City of Highland Park.
