Laura Dowling

Biography

Laura Dowling served as Chief Floral Designer at the White House from 2009 – 2015, where she managed White House floral design for thousands of official and private events, including state dinners, parties, reception and large-scale installations, such as the 4th of July, Halloween and the iconic White House Christmas.  Laura is known for her contemporary and romantic style of flower arrangements featuring a free interplay between flowers, floral boughs and branches, berried twigs and leafy vines, combined with more formally designed bouquets and hand-crafted organic vases.  She is the author of “Floral Diplomacy at the White House” and “A White House Christmas,” both published by Stichting Kunstboek in 2017.  Laura currently travels throughout the world leading floristry workshops, designing events and speaking to groups about the role of flowers as important diplomatic tools.
