Sandy Syburg is co-founder of Purple Cow Organics, LLC, a recognized leader in the field of organic soil amendments, supplying products, such as Activated™ compost, across the country for farmers, home gardeners and landscape professionals.
Syburg developed an interest in working with nature early in life on his grandmother’s farm, where she taught him the importance of reusing natural resources, such as leaves and other organic matter. Much later, Syburg acquired 200 acres near Oconomowoc, Wis., where he now farms a variety of food crops, while innovating and testing potential new products.
With a collaborative leadership style and goal to foster organic processes, Syburg serves on the Grower Executive Committee of Coulee Region Organic Produce Pool, a cooperative featuring more than 1,800 owners. Has also has served on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Advisory Committee on Organics.
Under Syburg’s leadership, Purple Cow Organics has received the Force for Positive Change award from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and the Morgridge Institute, among others. The company has earned the Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 partnership, to promote compost utilization in erosion control and surface water improvement. Purple Cow Organics also was named Official Composter of Farm Aid 25
As his grandmother once taught him, Syburg travels the Midwest to help children and adults uncover the scientific wonders of soil, and make the connection between healthy soil, healthy plants and healthy people.
