Flower Inspiration in the White House Style

Throughout her tenure as Chief Floral Designer, Laura’s goal was to create innovative and trend-setting designs that enhanced and complemented the historic White House setting, to increase opportunities for volunteer participation, and to carry out the First Lady’s vision of making the White House and warm and welcoming place for all Americans.  This seminar program will highlight some of Laura’s favorite projects – including the intricate illusion cube column covers made from tens of thousands of folded leaves, berries and pinecone scales; the traditional cranberry pieces in the Red Room; door surrounds made from gilded oak leaf rosettes, dried hydrangea and other simple materials (including pipe cleaners and ribbons); and oversized holiday wreaths made from fruit and vegetables in geometric shapes.  She will also showcase her favorite projects, including the White House Christmas, official State Dinners, and special floral pieces she created over the years.
